Pakistan Day in Cairo: Govt taking practical steps for macroeconomic stability: envoy

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Egypt Aamir Shouket has said that the government is taking practical measures for macroeconomic stability, ease of doing business and reduction in inflation. He was addressing a gathering at a Cairo hotel to commemorate the 85th National Day of Pakistan.
The ambassador paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers’ countless sacrifices to realise Pakistan’s dream under the exemplary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Egyptian Minister of the Public Business Sector Engineer Mohamed Shimi was the chief guest. Highlighting the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) for investment facilitation for foreign investors in key sectors, the ambassador said Pakistan is strategically placed to serve as a connectivity hub, conduit for energy, economic and maritime gateway for South Asia, Central Asia, Middle East and China. He said Pakistan is an ideal destination for trade and investment with a significant youth bulge, a cost-effective workforce and tremendous natural resources. Shouket also recalled that the liberalised visa regime is attracting more tourists to visit Pakistan than before.
Appreciating the deep-rooted fraternal ties between Pakistan and Egypt, Ambassador Shaukat noted with satisfaction the recent high-level exchanges between the leadership of the two brotherly countries to further strengthen bilateral political, economic, defence, cultural, health, and educational cooperation. Chief Guest Engineer Mohamed Shimi congratulated Pakistan on the National Day. He reiterated the commitment of the leadership of Egypt to enhance bilateral cooperation.
The students of Pakistan International School Cairo presented a cultural performance showcasing the art and culture of all the federating units. A corner, projecting arts, crafts and cultural heritage and the export potential of Pakistan, attracted the attention of the dignitaries and guests. A cake-cutting ceremony was also held to celebrate the occasion.
Earlier, the Chamberlain of the Egyptian Presidency delivered a congratulatory message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. A large number of Egyptian government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, business community, academia, journalists and Pakistani community attended the reception.
