Pakistan to stage Ball and Dek Hockey World Cup in 2026
ISLAMABAD: President World Ball and Dek Hockey Federation Jaroaslav Melisek has announced staging the World Cup in Pakistan in February 2026 to popularise the game in the country.
Jaroaslav Melisek said that the game’s governing body is looking for new avenues. “The game is gaining popularity in Pakistan and we want to support the country by allotting them the next World Cup to be held in a year’s time,” he said.
He praised the efforts of Inamul Haq Khan, President Pakistan Chapter, to help popularise the sport in the country. “The game is gaining popularity with each passing day and the World Cup in a year’s time will help further popularise the game,” he said.
Jaroaslav Melisek said that 12 or more teams are expected to compete in the World Cup. “Pakistan are also planning to host the 14th South Asian Games in Januray 2026. The Ball and Dek Hockey World Cup will be held at the end of SA Games,” he said.
Inamul Haq said that Jaroaslav Melisek’s visit to Pakistan would help Pakistan build up its reputation as a sporting country. The visiting delegation earlier on Wednesday also met Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Yasir Peerzada who assured them all possible help to host the World Cup in a befitting manner.
