Recent developments in the healthcare sector raise serious concerns about potential conflicts of interest within regulatory bodies. When those responsible for oversight also hold stakes in private healthcare enterprises, the line between regulation and competition risks becoming dangerously blurred. It is imperative that healthcare regulators maintain a clear separation from personal business interests during their tenure.

Without such safeguards, there is a real risk — whether intentional or not — of power being used to influence market dynamics, target competitors or protect vested interests. To foster a healthier healthcare ecosystem, we must prioritise transparency, fairness and strict conflict-of-interest checks in all regulatory appointments.
