United coach Hesson expects even better show in PSL X
ISLAMABAD: As excitement builds and franchises gear up for the milestone 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), all eyes are on defending champions Islamabad United, who are ready to charge into the new season with renewed focus and firepower. With the tournament set to ignite stadiums starting Friday, Head Coach Mike Hesson has assigned a bold challenge to his squad -- build on last year’s triumph and aim even higher.
Under the dazzling floodlights of the Pindi Stadium on Tuesday evening, United’s training session was a display of precision, intensity, and purpose. Hesson, known for his analytical approach and tactical brilliance, made it clear that resting on past glory is not an option. “Last season brought us success, but good is never enough when excellence is within reach,” Hesson remarked with conviction.
“This time, we are focused on ironing out the flaws, however minor, that crept into our performance last year. We’re not just defending our title -- we’re evolving, adapting, and striving to set a new benchmark.” With a blend of seasoned stalwarts and explosive young talent, Islamabad United look poised not just to defend their crown, but to redefine dominance in PSL history. As the countdown to the first ball begins, one thing is certain: United means business, and the 10th edition of the PSL is set for a spectacular showdown.
Islamabad United were seen training at the Islamabad Club grounds Monday and then shifting the session to Pindi Stadium Tuesday. “We are focusing on targeted training during our practice sessions. Targets are being chased as if we are playing the actual match. It is good to see cricketers facing a real challenge ahead of the start of the 10th edition.”
Hesson praised the raw talent of Mohammad Shahzad, Saad Masood and Hanain Shah. “We have some exciting young talent which is expected to make waves in future. Shahzad and Saad are good future talents,” he said.
The United head coach also spoke highly of Sahibzada Farhan who is coming out of a successful domestic season. “Hopefully he will carry that form going into the PSL X. We are looking forward to his contribution in the League. He is one of the prospects for the top-order.”
Hesson was excited to be part of Islamabad United. “I am enjoying my stint with the United.” Meanwhile, Salman Ali Agha and Naseem Shah have joined Islamabad United following their recent tour to New Zealand with the Pakistan team to New Zealand.
Islamabad United will be up against Lahore Qalandars in their opening match on April 11. Lahore Qalandars are also getting closer to completing their squad for the 10th edition. David Wiese (Namibia), Sam Billings (England), Rishad Hossein (Bangladesh) and Kusal Perera (Sri Lanka) have arrived in Islamabad to join Lahore Qalandars team, which had their pre-tournament camp at Lahore.
Peshawar Zalmi team which is scheduled to play their opening match against Quetta Gladiators on April 12 at the Pindi Stadium also held their practice session at the venue on Tuesday. Their star players Babar Azam and Saim Ayub have joined the team and so did Luke Wood, Mitchell Owen, and Alzarri Joseph.
