ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader and PTI senior leader Omar Ayub Khan Monday alleged that the PPP members were shedding crocodile tears on the canal issue.

“President Asif Ali Zardari himself has sold the canals of Sindh, and today he is changing his position due to the public reaction,” he said while talking to the media after attending the National Assembly session. Referring to the actions being taken, he charged that the institutions were forcibly implementing the PECA law.

He claimed that the National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq did not let them speak in the House and they protested against this behaviour. He continued that Imran Khan was not being allowed to have meetings and was not permitted to offer Eid prayers.

The opposition leader said at this time they were seeing how much pressure their alliance will put forward; and there should be no interference in the politics from the establishment. Omar Ayub said the Adiala Jail superintendent was not obeying the court’s orders regarding their meetings with the party founder.

He complained that it had been three months since they met the founder of the party. He expressed ignorance when a journalist asked him whether the US delegation had met the founder of PTI.

Speaking on the occasion, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said terrorism was a problem of the entire country, adding that the incidents of terrorism should be condemned and his party had condemned terrorism.

He remarked, “We have lost the independence of the judiciary, democracy and supremacy of the House”.

Separately, PTI leader senior Atif Khan said if the rhetoric of the party leaders continued, tension will increase and suggested that they should focus on the release of Imran Khan at this time.

During the Question Hour, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq expressed his annoyance over the absence of Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik on the first question. When Sharmila Farooqi asked a question, Malik was not present to answer.
