Man held for killing pregnant wife, children in alleged honour killing

SUKKUR: A man has been arrested for murdering his pregnant wife and three children under the pretext of honour killing in Mirpurkhas.

The incident occurred in the limits of Sindhri Police station in Wali Muhammad Mangrio village, where the accused, Wejhio Bhell, set his wife, Maryam Bhel, and his two sons, two-year-old Khushal and five-year-old Harillal on fire.

SHO Sindhri Khuda Bakhsh Ranjhani said the accused suspected that his wife had an affair. A case has been filed on the complaint of the deceased woman’s brother, Gordhan. He told police that the accused used to torture his sister.

According to doctors a dead child was removed during the pregnant woman’s post-mortem. They further said initial post-mortem revealed one of the woman’s legs was severed, while torture marks were found on five-year-old Harilal’s body. Maryam Bhel’s relatives said she and her children were tied up and set on fire by the accused. In a video statement released by police, the accused confessed to burning his wife and children. Police said the accused would be presented in court on Monday (today).

Meanwhile, two dacoits were killed while a policeman was injured in an encounter with dacoits in Rahuki, Hyderabad.

Reports said a heavy contingent of Hyderabad police led by DSP CIA Iftikhar Ahmed Buriro and DSP Tando Jam Asad Channa conducted a raid near Narijani over information about the presence of a most wanted dacoit gang. The killed dacoits were identified as Irfan Narejo and Nadir alias Nado while injured policeman as Waqar Ali.

According to initial investigation, the dacoits were involved in dozens of criminal cases, including road robberies, murders, and police encounters.
