Under the ongoing drive against illegal immigrants in Pakistan, the Sindh government has so far repatriated 307 Afghans who were illegally residing in the province to their native country. The repatriation drive began in Sindh on April 1.
A handout issued on Sunday quoted Information Minister Sharjeel Memon as saying that the repatriated Afghans had been staying at the Amin House transit camp in the Sultanabad area of Karachi.
Initially, a list of 313 people had been compiled for the repatriation campaign, but later on, 307 Afghans were repatriated to Afghanistan after scrutiny and verification of their cases, and the completion of the legal formalities.
Memon said the repatriated Afghans comprised 79 children, 37 women and 191 men. He said the Afghans had been deported from Pakistan due to their illegal stay in the city. He also said the campaign to deport illegal migrants would continue with due observance of the law of the land, and global rules and regulations. The global laws aimed at the protection of the rights of illegal migrants are being duly observed by the government, he added.
The senior minister said the repatriation process is taking place in accordance with the same laws. He said the Sindh government’s repatriation campaign upholds humanitarian norms and the law of the land. The drive will continue to tackle the issue of illegal migrants in the province, he added.
