12 die in road accidents in 24 hours

LAHORE:The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,484 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

In these accidents, 12 people died, whereas 1,768 were injured. Out of these, 726 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 1,042 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.

Man hit to death in Samanabad

A traffic accident claimed the life of a 60-year old man near the Samanabad Orange Train Station. Police officials reported that the incident took place when a speeding vehicle struck the pedestrian, leaving him with fatal injuries. According to eyewitnesses, the victim was crossing the road when the vehicle, travelling at high speed, lost control and hit him. He died on the spot.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

Meanwhile, an 88-year-old pedestrian died after he was struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing the Multan-Chuhng Road. The victim, identified as Abdul Rahim, was hit by a speeding vehicle. Eyewitnesses said that Abdul Rahim was crossing the road when the vehicle, unable to stop in time, struck him, leaving him with fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The victim’s body was transferred to the morgue.

Two fugitives arrested from abroad

The Punjab Police Special Operations Cell arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs) involved in serious crimes, including murder, and brought them back to Pakistan from the United Arab Emirates.

According to the police spokesperson, Waleed Sajjad, a proclaimed offender, was wanted by Gujranwala Police in two separate cases of attempted murder, where he shot and injured citizens. Another PO, Ali Zaib, had been on the run since 2023, wanted in connection with a murder case in Gujranwala. This brings the total number of POs arrested from abroad this year to 18, marking a significant achievement in the police's efforts to track down fugitives.
