Two suspects allegedly involved in a robbery in Defence that left a trader dead were arrested in an injured condition following a shootout with police on Saturday.
Police said the incident took place near Ayesha Masjid in the jurisdiction of the Defence police station. They said officers had set up a routine checkpoint, where instead of stopping, the suspects opened fire on police.
Police retaliated and injured both the suspects, then took them into custody. The detainees were identified as Syed Asif Ali, son of Syed Ishaq Ali, and Habib Umar, son of Habib Mahmood.
Police recovered a 30-bore pistol and a 9mm pistol from them, and impounded the stolen motorbike they had been riding. During the initial interrogation, the suspects admitted to killing a man named Amir during a robbery in Defence on Wednesday.
Officials said the suspects were already wanted in several street crime cases, and had a criminal record. The suspects were handed over to the investigation wing for further action.
