Rally against new canals receives warm welcome in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A rally organised by the Save Indus River Movement Committee to protest against the construction of new canals began in the Sakrand Tehsil of District Benazirabad and reached Hyderabad’s Hyder Chowk, where it was warmly welcomed by a large crowd.

On the stage set up at Hyder Chowk, workers and supporters of various political parties were present. They included the Sindh United Party, the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Qaumi Awami Tehreek among others.

Earlier, the rally was led by the committee’s convener Syed Zain Shah, GDA General Secretary Safdar Abbasi and PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh. The rally received a warm welcome from the locals at Sabu Rahu, Hala Branch, Panjmoro, Pir Jhando and New Saeedabad.

The rally was also welcomed at Wanjhri Sharif, Barocho Bagh, Hala city, Khando stop, Khaiber, Bao Dero, Hala Naka, City Gate and the district headquarters in Matiari. A large number of people participated in the rally, including Sindh Abadgar Ittehad President Nawab Zubair Talpur, PTI leaders Faisal Mughal, Afroz Shoro and Nazish Bhatti, and members of the civil society.
