Beyond operations
This refers to the letter ‘Timely call’ (March 24, 2025) by Kamal Hyat. The writer praises JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s speech in parliament last month, in which he claimed that Pakistan is not functioning as a ‘true democracy’. The JUI-F chief is a seasoned and reasonable politician. His opinion that politicians and parliamentarians unite across party lines and devise a cohesive national strategy to halt our current decline and re-establish the writ of the state, especially in the violence-stricken provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, has merit. We know that not all issues can be solved through operations or other kinetic measures alone. We all owe it to Pakistan to sit down together and establish both short-term and long-term ‘joint steering mechanisms’ so that KP and Balochistan are able to enjoy the fruits of peace, stability and economic development.
