The Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) emir, Monem Zafar, has condemned the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Sindh government and the Karachi mayor over the tragic death of another child who fell in an open manhole in the Mawach Goth area of Karachi's Keamari district.

Addressing the media after taking part in the funeral prayers of the child, the JI leader said it was the third tragic death of a child because of open manholes in the same area during the ongoing year. He recalled that last year, some 19 innocent children across the megacity had lost their lives because of open manholes.

He held the PPP government and mayor responsible for the tragic deaths. The PPP government had badly failed in providing any relief to the people of Karachi, Zafar said, adding that the ruling regime was busy in minting money, whereas the people were at the mercy of corrupt bureaucracy and criminal elements. He prayed for the grieved family and demanded that the government provide justice to them. JI leader Fazal Ahad Hanif and others accompanied Zafar.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the JI, led by Saifuddin Advocate — the leader of the opposition in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation City Council participated in the funeral prayers for Amir Sultan, a trader who was killed in front of his eight-year-old son in Karachi's Defence area for offering resistance to criminals.

Following the funeral prayers, Saifuddin spoke to the media and said the PPP government was not interesting in restoring law and order in Karachi. He said Karachi deserved a better model of governance and the JI was going to launch a full scale movement against the PPP government in the days to come.
