The Sindh government has announced launching a strict crackdown on transporters overcharging passengers returning from their Eidul Fitr holidays. Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon said that this measure is being taken in coordination with the district government, the police and the National Highway & Motorway Police.
Memon said that safeguarding the rights of the public is the utmost priority of the government, and no bus, coach or transport service would be permitted to charge unlawful extra fare.
He said the transport department has already directed all the officers to vigilantly check fares, and take immediate action over any offence. The government will not tolerate any exploitation of the public, so if any transporter is found overcharging passengers, strict legal action will be taken against them, he added. He emphasised that the aim of this campaign is to protect ordinary residents from unfair fare hikes, and to ensure that the travel facilities are well-organised and transparent.
