Mepco intensifies campaign against power thieves in the division
MULTAN: The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) has intensified campaign against power theft and started recoveries from defaulters in the division.
The Mepco headquarters directed all the subdivisions to launch an operation against power theft and there should be no compromise on electricity theft, the Mepco officials said.Statistics said that on the instructions of Mepco Chief Executive Officer Engineer Gul Muhammad Zahid during the last month, the Mepco surveillance teams caught 1,503 people for stealing electricity and cases were registered against 1,328 electricity thieves while 20 electricity thieves were arrested on the spot.
A total of Rs 95.4 million was imposed as fine and Rs 17.8 million was collected on the spot.During March 1 to 29, in Multan circle, 209 electricity thieves were fined Rs 15.7 million and cases were registered against 209 consumers.
In Khanewal circle, 131 consumers were fined Rs 10.8 million and police registered cases against 45 consumers for power pilferage.In Mepco DG Khan circle, 223 electricity thieves were fined Rs 6.6 million and 223 cases were registered while in Vehari circle, 60 consumers were fined Rs 5.8 million and 36 FIRs were registered against the accused.In Muzaffargarh circle, 189 consumers were fined Rs 6 million while in Bahawalpur circle, 163 electricity thieves were fined Rs 12.9 million and 160 cases were registered.
