Bahawalpur CPLC pattern to be emulated across Punjab

BAHAWALPUR: The Punjab police have initiated a process to establish Citizen Police Liaison Committees on the pattern of CPLC Bahawalpur throughout the province.
The Inspector General Police, Punjab, has directed all RPOs, CPOs; CCPOs and DPOs to provide their conceptual and technical input to operationlise the CPLCs to emulate the CPLC Bahawalpur.
This has been communicated to the police high-ups in a circular issued in this regard. “Under the dedicated and committed oversight of RPO Bahawalpur Dr Ehsan Sadiq, the CPLC through its sustained and effective community policing endeavor has reduced crime ratio in Bahawalpur range during the last decade.
The incidence of crime stood at 31,994 in the year 2006 which gradually started declining during the preceding years and the incidence of crimes got drastically declined and consequently.
The reduction of more than 5,829 crimes in 2015 in comparison to the quantum of crimes committed in 2016 is a practical manifestation of the crime free vision through the joint collaboration of police range Bahawalpur and the CPLC Bahawalpur.
The CPLC Bahawalpur had achieved this well-coming performance of scaling down the quantum of crimes by organizing various workshops; symposiums and seminars for enhancing capacity building of police officers and Victim Response officers throughout the region.
CPLC Bahawalpur took result-oriented initiatives to organize town hall meetings between citizens, NGOs, academia and opinion leaders with police officials which turned the vision of community policing into practical reality in Bahawalpur police range.
ICE SELLERS’ PROTEST: Hundreds of ice sellers Tuesday staged a protest demonstration in Chishtian against unjustified increase in ice price by ice factory owners. The protesters gathered at Chowk Fawara and staged demonstration and disrupted traffic on roads and burnt tires. They raised slogans against ice factory owners and urged local administration to take action against the owners.
PO killed in encounter with police

BAHAWALPUR: A proclaimed offender was killed in an alleged encounter with Maroot police at Chak 301/HR on Tuesday.
Police, on a tip-off, raided the area to arrest PO Fayyaz alias Fayazi Seesi and his three accomplices but they opened fire on them. Police also retaliated. As a result, Fayyaz was killed on the spot while his accomplices managed to escape.
LAWYERS STRIKE: Strike of the Bahawalnagar District Bar Association entered the second day here on Tuesday.
The lawyers banned the entry of police on the district court premises till the acceptance of their demands. The lawyers were observing the strike from Monday against the arrest of their colleague Farooq Abid Bhatti on the charges of torturing Sub-Inspector Muhammad Anwar.
