Over 2,500 WSSP workers participate in cleanliness operations on Eid
PESHAWAR: More than 2,500 workers participated in the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) Eidul Fitr cleanliness operations, which concluded here on Wednesday.
General Manager Muhammad Ijaz, zonal managers and management staff were also present in the field and continuously monitored the operation.
Officers from the district administration also visited operational sites to assess the cleanliness situation.
Political, social and public circles, along with elected representatives, praised the WSSP staff for ensuring cleanliness during Eid and appreciated the management’s efforts. A day before Eid, a city-wide clean-up operation was conducted, during which all areas and collection points were cleared and lime was applied.
A day before Eid staff remained on duty despite Sunday and 455 tons of waste was collected.
On Eid day, early in the morning, cleaning was carried out around mosques and residential areas. The staff worked day and night. Over the three days, approximately 1,000 tons of waste was disposed of, collection points were cleared and lime was applied.
Water supply staff also remained on duty to ensure a continuous water supply, and drain clearance operations also continued. A total of 238 small and large vehicles were used to collect and transport waste from streets to collection points, then to transfer stations, and finally to the dumping site. Special teams monitored the operation across all five zones.
Elected local government representatives commended the Eid cleaning operation, stating that timely cleanliness was ensured and the staff’s hard work made Eid enjoyable for citizens.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer Yasir Ali Khan appreciated the efforts of the staff and management officials, emphasizing that teamwork played a role in keeping the city clean.
