Cop injured in firing by drug peddlers

MANSEHRA: A police constable sustained injuries when a group of drug peddlers opened fire on a police party in Kotkay Khatta area.

“As soon as the drug peddlers came across the police team, they opened indiscriminate fire, injuring one constable before fleeing the scene,” Amir Hussain, SHO of Saddar Police Station, told reporters on Sunday.

He added the police recently launched the anti-narcotics drive which was in full swing.

The SHO said acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the den of the drug peddlers. He said that instead of surrendering, the suspects opened fire, leaving constable Mohammad Tahir injured.

“Drug dealers, Mohammad Owas and his brother Mohammad Ahsan, managed to escape after attacking the police,” he said.

The injured constable was rushed to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable. Hussain stated that raids were underway across the district to apprehend the fleeing suspects and other narcotics dealers.Meanwhile, the traffic police fined dozens of drivers for overcharging passengers.
