Pink Bus fleet expanded
Islamabad: The education ministry has expanded the Pink Bus fleet by adding two more buses, further improving safe and convenient public transportation for women in the federal capital's urban and rural areas.
The ministry officials extended gratitude to cabinet secretary Kamran Ali Afzal for facilitating the expansion of the programme. They said the initiative was all about ensuring that women have access to safe and reliable public transport, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to empowering and uplifting women. The officials said the addition of more buses would further improve accessibility and convenience for women traveling within the capital city.
The education ministry launched the Pink Bus Service last year by repurposing 20 Federal Directorate of Education school and college buses to provide free transport for female students and teachers between rural and urban Islamabad, insisting the move will ease financial burdens and reduce school dropouts among girls, with additional buses under repair to further support the initiative. The initiative was widely appreciated, with people saying it has helped address safety concerns for female commuters.
