A local leader of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) and a Rangers soldier were shot dead in separate incidents of firing in the city on Sunday.

According to police, the ASWJ leader was killed in a targeted attack in the Quaidabad area, whereas, the Rangers employee was shot dead while resisting a mugging bid in Sohrab Goth.

ASWJ Sherpao Colony President Qari Abdur Rehman was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Quaidabad’s Sherpao Colony. A spokesperson for the party stated that Abdur Rehman's father, 65-year-old Gul Rehman, son of Imran Baba, was also critically injured in the attack.

The incident occurred while Abdur Rehman was at his bottled water shop when two armed men on a motorcycle arrived and opened fire. He was killed on the spot while his father and another individual, identified as 55-year-old Shakir Taj, sustained serious injuries.

Following the attack, police and rescue teams reached the scene and transported the casualties to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Police stated they were still gathering details and that it was too early to comment on the motive behind the killing.

Officials said CCTV footage from the surrounding area was being examined to identify the suspects. Till the filing of this report, no case had been registered.

A Rangers soldier was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Fatah Muhammad Gabol Goth, Sohrab Goth, within the jurisdiction of the Sohrab Goth police station. The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Zaheeruddin, son of Naseeruddin.

According to witnesses, Zaheeruddin was on leave and in civilian clothes when armed motorcyclists fired three bullets at him in a residential alley, killing him instantly.

His body was later shifted to a hospital for post-mortem and legal proceedings. Police collected forensic evidence from the crime scene.

Officials believe the incident occurred during a robbery attempt, in which Zaheeruddin resisted, prompting the robbers to open fire on him. The suspects fled the scene without stealing anything. A formal investigation has been launched, and police are working to identify and apprehend the suspects.
