Naeem demands justice for victims of Malir Halt accident
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has demanded justice for the couple and their unborn child who were ran over by a water tanker in the Malir area of Karachi.
Talking to the media after paying a visit to the bereaved family in Malir on Saturday, he said that accidents happened across the globe and later justice was served to the victims.
However, he maintained, Karachi was the only unfortunate city that was deprived of justice.
He said the tragedy that claimed the lives of an innocent pregnant woman, her husband and their unborn child sent shockwaves across the entire country.
He stated that Karachi was the most prominent city in the country due to its economic significance but its people had been denied their very basic rights.
Lamenting delays in the completion of the Green Line, Red Line and other projects, Rehman said a development project that was completed in almost nine months in other provinces took almost a decade in Karachi.
Karachi had become a city of the mafia where they roamed around with impunity, he said, adding that there was no writ of the government in Sindh where gangs were free to operate everywhere from the riverine area to the posh neighbourhoods.
He said the mafias ruled over Karachi as residents of the megacity were killed on an almost daily basis by tankers, trailers and street criminals but no law was in place that could ensure the arrest of perpetrators.
The JI leader held the fake form 47 rulers responsible for the prevailing situation of Karachi. He alleged that both the Chief Minister House and the Governor House shelter and harbour mafias.
The people of Karachi would have to come forward in order to get rid of mafias, the JI leader asserted. He announced that the JI would hold a protest outside the Sindh inspector general of police’s office.
He demanded that the government ensure justice for the victim families of the Malir Halt tragedy and other such
Illegal constructions
The Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) leader of the opposition in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation City Council, Saifuddin Advocate, has written a letter to the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) director general (DG) demanding that the authority act decisively against illegal massive constructions in Karachi fueled by the black money.
In his letter, the City Council opposition leader expressed grave concerns over the growth of illegal constructions worth trillions of rupees in the mega city and highlighted the after effects caused by it.
He said the illegitimate constructions not only aggravated the electricity, gas and water crises but also created sewerage and parking issues.
The JI leader also highlighted the connection between the builders mafia and corrupt SBCA officials in the letter. He wrote that apparently the builders mafia, corrupt officials, tax evaders and black money holders were taking advantage of the illegitimate constructions in the megalopolis.
He demanded that the authorities take solid and effective action over the situation.
Owing to the constitutional role of the local government, he suggested that the SBCA take relevant union committees and towns on board in connection with allowing new constructions in the city.
He urged the SBCA DG to file criminal cases against the corrupt SBCA officials and builders involved in the illegal practice. He also sought access to the cases filed in this connection during the past one year.
