LAHORE: A once neglected institution for orphans and homeless children in Samanabad, Lahore has been transformed into a state-of-the-art model children’s home, offering modern facilities and a safe environment for its residents.
The project, initiated under the leadership of former Punjab caretaker chief minister and incumbent Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has been completed under the supervision of the Lahore Institute of Health Sciences.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the model children’s home and reviewed the facilities provided in the model home for orphans and helpless children. The interior minister inspected the children’s rooms, washrooms, cafeteria and appreciated the facilities and paid tribute to Gohar Ijaz and Sultan Gohar.
The heads of Lahore Institute of Health Sciences, Gohar Ijaz and Sultan Gohar, briefed the interior minister about the model home. Naqvi distributed Eid gifts among the children. He met the child Kamran who played cricket and invited him to come to the academy and comforted the child who had teary eyes while receiving the Eid gift.
The interior minister, while addressing the ceremony, said that he visited the institution for the first time late at night in early 2023 and the condition of this institution was very bad. He called Gohar Ejaz the same night and told that a lot of dust was found in the water filtration plant, the rooms were in shabby condition, dirt and insects were found in the kitchen, there was no one to take care of the children and the staff did not come for many days. He recalled that the children were living in miserable conditions and there was only one nanny in the junior school for young children.
“The condition was so bad that it would make one shudder.” He said that he asked Gohar Ijaz that the government cannot do this work under any circumstances and added that Gohar Ijaz is doing amazing work with the hospitals.
