QUETTA: After 17 days, the Jaffer Express departed from Quetta on Friday, carrying over 400 passengers.

This is the first train to depart from Quetta for domestic destinations since the attack on March 11. The train left the Quetta Railway Station at 9am for Peshawar. Member of National Assembly Jamal Shah Kakar saw off passengers and expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Railway Minister Hanif Abbasi. Jamal said the revival of train operations in Balochistan was a positive development for the poor. Due to the suspension of rail services, airlines were charging exorbitant fares. In addition to the Jaffer Express, eight new trains will be operating from Balochistan. He said he had raised voice in the standing committee concerned for the restoration of railway services and adding trains. The divisional superintendent of Railways mentioned that foolproof security measures had been implemented for trains.
