ALPURI: Serious allegations of favouritism have emerged about the distribution of the Ramazan relief package in Shangla, where deserving beneficiaries were reportedly ignored.
It was alleged that Rs 10,000 relief packages were distributed among Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and their families, with some families receiving benefits for as many as 22 members.
The opposition parties and local political circles condemned this alleged partiality. It was alleged that a “mafia” within the local administration misused its influence, ensuring their relatives, friends, and close associates benefited from the aid while deserving people were overlooked.
According to reports, clerical staff in the deputy commissioner’s office and other administrative personnel, in collaboration with a few PTI leaders, prioritized their own families and associates while compiling the lists of the recipients.
Social media posts revealed that a local PTI leader included 22 of their own family members in the relief distribution, fueling public outrage.Widows, orphans, and other underprivileged people were allegedly disregarded during the distribution.
The local people and political circles demanded an investigation by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur into the alleged irregularities. They called for strict action against the “mafia” within the administration and PTI members involved in the manipulation of relief efforts.
The controversy sparked protests across Shangla, with critics emphasizing the urgent need to reform the relief distribution system to ensure transparency and fairness. Protesters insisted that authorities take decisive action against those responsible for the alleged misappropriation and restore the public trust in welfare initiatives.
