Islamabad:The Shifa International Hospital (SIH) organised a special awareness session to mark World Autism Day, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing support for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Autism is a neurological and developmental condition that affects communication, learning, social interactions, and behavior, says a press release.
Renowned actor and social activist Hamza Ali Abbasi, graced the event as the chief guest. He commended Shifa International Hospital for raising awareness and promoting early intervention for children with autism.
On the occasion Dr. Nosheen Kazmi, consultant psychiatrist & lead Autism Services at SIH, highlighted that while consolidated data on autism in Pakistan is unavailable, there is a noticeable increase in the number of children being diagnosed with the condition. She highlighted the hospital’s specialized services for diagnosing and managing ASD, ensuring children receive the needed support.
Dr. Faiza Badar, senior manager Rehabilitation Department, underscored the crucial role of therapists in improving behaviour, communication and ADL’s in children with autism. The event was attended by teachers working with autistic children, parents of children diagnosed with ASD, and healthcare professionals, all of whom engaged in discussions on the importance of early diagnosis, intervention, and therapy.
