The Sindh government on Wednesday announced forming a task force to oversee the development, restoration and beautification of Karachi’s major roads and adjoining commercial areas to improve the city’s infrastructure, ensuring cleaner public spaces and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the metropolis.
A statement issued by the chief secretary’s office reads that the task force would be led by the city mayor as its chairman. The primary objective of the task force is to coordinate, supervise and synchronise activities across various government agencies to address multiple civic challenges.
The task force will focus on improving cleanliness, ensuring efficient garbage removal, resolving encroachment issues, addressing illegal parking concerns, resolving sewerage problems and promoting overall infrastructure development. By streamlining these activities, the task force aims to significantly enhance the urban landscape.
The task force will prioritise development and beautification efforts on several major roads, including Sharea Faisal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Sher Shah Suri Road, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Habib Ibrahim Rahimtoola (Karsaz) Road, Abdullah Haroon Road to Shahrah-e-Firdousi (up to Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s shrine) and II Chundrigar Road.
To ensure the successful execution of this comprehensive plan, the government has directed all the relevant agencies to fully cooperate with the task force for streamlining activities, preventing work duplication, and efficiently utilising resources.
The task force will also introduce pedestrian-friendly features, expanding green spaces, enhancing street lighting and improving public infrastructure to create a safer, cleaner and more vibrant urban environment for residents and visitors.
Earlier, CS Asif Hyder Shah emphasised during a meeting he chaired that Karachi is the heart of Sindh, and improving its beauty, resolving traffic issues and eliminating encroachments are top priorities for the government.
Shah instructed the task force to commence its work immediately and present significant results within the given time frame to provide prompt relief to residents. He said that all the institutions would work jointly for the city’s improvement. He directed all the relevant departments to ensure Karachi becomes a well-organised, beautiful and modern city.
