On directives of Sindh Senior Minister for Transport and Information Sharjeel Inam Memon, the provincial transport department launched a crackdown on Wednesday on transporters overcharging passengers during Eidul Fitr.
As part of the campaign, 710 vehicles were inspected across the province. During the operation, 427 vehicles were fined for fare violations with a total penalty of Rs384,200 imposed on the violators. Additionally, the transport department teams refunded Rs1,015,300 to affected passengers on the spot.
According to the transport department, the campaign would continue even after Eidul Fitr to ensure that passengers were fully protected from illegal fares. Memon reiterated the Sindh government's commitment to providing fair and affordable transportation, emphasising that no one would be allowed to exploit citizens.
He stated that strict action was being taken against those charging excessive fares, with the transport department’s teams maintaining continuous monitoring. He warned that stringent legal action would be taken against violators and directed the authorities to intensify inspections to maximise relief for the public. The transport minister also urged the citizens to report the transporters charging excessive fares to the relevant authorities for prompt action.
