CHITRAL: Heavy rainfall and snowfall have continued across Chitral for the last two days, severely disrupting transportation and causing hardships for travelers.

Several roads in different areas have been blocked due to snow accumulation, making travel difficult for residents and commuters. In Upper Chitral, areas including Laspur, Yarkhun, Broghil, Khot, Rech, and Terich have reported heavy snowfall. Similarly, in Lower Chitral, valleys such as Lotkoh, Gobor, Karimabad, Arkari, Pursan and Madaklasht have been affected by snowfall, causing mobility issues.

According to SDPO Drosh Iqbal Karim, the Lowari Tunnel Road, which connects Lower Chitral with the rest of the country, remains open for all types of traffic. However, the road connecting Upper Chitral to Gilgit-Baltistan via Shandur has been closed again due to snowfall, despite being recently reopened last week.

Additionally, in Upper Chitral, a flash flood at Reshun near the pologround has blocked the road completely, halting all kinds of traffic. In Lower Chitral, a similar situation occurred at Kordam Gol in Drosh, where flooding has caused a traffic suspension.

The continuous rainfall has resulted in the overflowing of small streams and water channels across Upper and Lower Chitral, further aggravating the situation. As per the latest reports, roads leading to Garam Chashma, Bamburet, Shishikoh and Booni-Shagram have also been closed for all types of traffic.
