Efforts being made to improve health facilities, says minister

LAHORE:Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said efforts are being made to improve the conditions of government hospitals. The minister said this while paying a four-hour long visit to Mayo Hospital where he met patients in OPD and reviewed medical facilities.

Additional Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Ashfaq-ur-Rehman was also present on this occasion. Khawaja Salman Rafique visited the Chief Minister’s Complaint Counter, Paediatrics, Oncology, CCTV Room, Medicine Store, Neurosciences, Blood Bank, Cardiac and other departments. The additional secretary also contacted the complainants listed in the register at the Chief Minister’s Complaint Counter. Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof Mahmood Ayaz, CEO Prof Haroon Hamid, MS Dr Ehtesham-ul-Haq and others were also present on this occasion. MS Mayo Hospital was directed to ensure cleanliness.

The minister also chaired an emergency meeting at Mayo Hospital. He said that the situation was being reviewed by making surprise visits to government hospitals. Patients should be facilitated. Hospitals are being visited on a daily basis. Medicine lists and duty rosters should be displayed in hospitals.

Meanwhile, Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood paid a surprise visit to Ganga Ram Hospital where he met patients in the OPD and reviewed the medical facilities.

During the visit, he visited various departments. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof Khalid Masood Gondal and MS Dr Arif Iftikhar were also present. The Health Secretary directed MS Ganga Ram Hospital to ensure cleanliness.

Feedback was taken from the patients about the medical facilities. MS was directed to create facilities for the patients. Visits to the hospitals are being made on a daily basis. Instructions have been given to display medicine lists and duty rosters in hospital wards.
