PESHAWAR: An Anti-Terrorism Court here on Tuesday sentenced an Afghan citizen to 24 years and six months in prison along with a fine of Rs180,000 after finding him guilty of terrorism and extortion charges.
The court ordered the deportation of the convict following the completion of his prison term. According to the prosecution, the accused, Shams-ur-Rehman, a resident of Afghanistan, was involved in extorting money from citizens and providing financial support to terrorists.
During the trial, the court was presented with substantial evidence proving the allegations against the accused.The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had registered a case against Shams-ur-Rehman under multiple legal provisions.The prosecution argued that the available evidence was conclusive and did not warrant acquittal.
