Islamabad:Climate change minister Musadik Masood Malik attended a ceremony to welcome Rocky, a 7-year-old Asian Black Bear, to his new home at the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board's (IWMB) Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre.

Rocky's rescue and rehabilitation is a testament to the IWMB's commitment to protecting wildlife and preventing animal cruelty. Rocky was brutally injured and forced to participate in 35 dog fights, earning him a "gold medal" in the cruel underworld of animal fighting.

Minister Malik praised the IWMB and Four Paws International for rescuing and rehabilitating Rocky and said their dedication to providing a safe and nurturing environment for animals like Rocky was truly commendable.

He also announced several new initiatives aimed at promoting wildlife conservation and climate change mitigation in Pakistan. These initiatives include the establishment of a safari park for wildlife observation and education, the restoration of forests to their former glory through reforestation efforts, and the development of a comprehensive climate change plan, including the restoration of wildlife habitats and the promotion of sustainable practices.

Also on the cards is a new board comprising individuals who "genuinely care for animals and will work tirelessly to ensure their well-being," according to the minister. "We aim to create a safe place for wildlife in Pakistan and promote sustainable practices that benefit both our planet and our people." Officials said the IWMB and Four Paws International remained committed to providing Rocky with a safe and nurturing environment, ensuring he spends the rest of his life free from harm and suffering.
