Lawyers observe strike against ‘fake’ case
From Our Correspondent
HAFIZABAD: The lawyers on Monday observed strike against, what they alleged, registration of a false case by the DPO against DBA general secretary Rai Waqar and 27 other lawyers.
They demanded withdrawal of the case. A few days ago, the district and sessions judge had rejected a bail application of a murder accused. When police attempted to arrest the accused outside the courtroom, Rai Waqar along with 27 other lawyers allegedly pounced upon the policemen and foiled their attempt to arrest him. As a result, the murder accused escaped.
Meanwhile, on a petition of the DBA secretary, District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Sajjad Ahmad has ordered registration of a case against Inspector Ghulam Abbas and eight other policemen on the charges of thrashing the lawyers and hurling threats to them.
