ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Friday vowed to take all necessary steps for restoring peace in Balochistan and supported the federal government’s efforts towards addressing the challenges being faced by the province.
He expressed these views during his meeting with the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta, who met him at Jati Umrah, Lahore.
Rauf was accompanied by Atta Ulalh Langove, President Balochistan High Court Bar Association. Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar was also present.
The meeting, which lasted more than an hour, included an in-depth discussion on the alarming law and order situation, particularly in Balochistan.
The SCBAP president requested Nawaz to bring together the national political leaders, especially from Balochistan, to build a national consensus on resolving the province’s issues.
He emphasized that tackling terrorism and restoring peace in the province required a democratic approach as the only viable path forward.
Nawaz expressed his deep grief and concern over the prevailing situation in Balochistan and promised to play his role for restoring peace in the province. He also promised to visit the province soon.
Nawaz also agreed that the resolution of issues facing the province lay solely within the democratic framework. Furthermore, he extended his support to the federal government’s efforts towards addressing Balochistan’s challenges.
In the end, it was resolved to continue consultations in future for a peaceful, prosperous, and progressive Balochistan, as well as for the betterment of the entire country. They also prayed for those who lost their lives in the recent unfortunate incidents in Balochistan and across the country,” says a press release issued by the SCBA.
