PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Meena Khan Afridi has stated that strict measures have been implemented to prevent harassment in universities and other educational institutions across the province. “The zero-tolerance policy against harassment is being strictly enforced, and no leniency will be shown to any offender,” he said in a statement.
The minister said that anti-harassment laws and relevant forums in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were fully operational and were playing an effective role in promptly addressing complaints. “Legal inquiries are ongoing against individuals accused of harassment, and several offenders have already been dismissed from their positions,” he added.
He further stated that universities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were regularly issued directives to ensure a harassment-free environment, guaranteeing a safe educational atmosphere for students and faculty. “Harassment, wherever it occurs, is unacceptable and punishable,” Afridi maintained.
Highlighting recent cases, the minister mentioned that a perpetrator involved in a harassment case at the University of Malakand has been brought to justice, while legal action has also been initiated against those involved in a harassment case at Women’s University Mardan.
Afridi reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to ensure that all educational institutions provide a safe and conducive environment for academic progress. “Our goal is to establish an educational atmosphere where every student and teacher can continue their academic and professional activities without fear,” he added.
