IGP orders effective enforcement of traffic laws
LAHORE:The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, Friday ordered more effective enforcement of traffic laws in the province.
Chairing a meeting on traffic management at the Central Police Office (CPO), the IGP asked the relevant officers to improve traffic flow and implement strict traffic laws. District Traffic Officers (DTOs) and Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) attended the meeting via video link. The IGP stressed urgent measures to increase the issuance of driving licences across the province.
He asked the traffic officers to optimize key roads to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and enforce traffic laws more effectively. The IGP endorsed a zero-tolerance policy for traffic rules violators, underage drivers and illegal transportation.
He also directed that road infrastructure development and traffic discipline be prioritised, particularly in Lahore. The IGP lauded the efforts of the traffic police of Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, and Multan for improving road conditions and tackling illegal encroachments.
He highlighted the importance of establishing an axle load management system for highways and urged better collaboration with educational institutions to promote driving licenses among students.
The meeting also addressed the need to enhance the recovery rates of licensing and e-challaning systems. Meanwhile, the IGP, Punjab, Friday reviewed the progress of the ongoing projects of Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) across the province.
Chairing a meeting at the Central Police Office, the IGP said the Smart Safe Cities projects are crucial for the next two decades of policing. He said phases 1 and 2 of the projects are nearing completion, with plans to extend them to all 140 tehsils in the province. The PSCA MD briefed the officials on the Punjab Emergency I system, saying the advanced communication network is designed to enhance police operations, providing a seamless link between emergency services and law enforcement. He said connected to the 15 emergency helpline, the system allows direct communication between SHOs and police control rooms, equipped with crime data, case histories, and essential police apps.
