Punjab governor vows to digitise education institutions
LAHORE: Governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan visited the JazzCash office on Thursday to discuss strategies for enhancing digitisation in Punjab, in line with the government’s vision of promoting a cashless society.
The conversation focused on potential collaborations between the government and the private sector, particularly in relation to the digitisation of payments for educational institutions. During the meeting, the governor emphasised the important role digital payments play in driving economic growth and efficiency, particularly in terms of creating convenience for the common citizen. “We need fintech companies to step up and advance digital payment solutions, especially in education institutions,” he said.
The move towards digital payments in education is aimed at supporting socio-economic growth and improving tax compliance. It also offers greater convenience for students, parents and educational institutions, paving the way for a more efficient and transparent education system.
“At JazzCash, we are on a mission to digitise financial transactions across various sectors of the economy, with education at the forefront due to its transformative impact on society,” said President of JazzCash Murtaza Ali. “By enabling digital payments for education institutions, we simplify processes and, in doing so, bring students into the formal banking ecosystem. This opens doors to essential services such as loans, savings, and insurance, while empowering students to share these benefits with their families and communities. Ultimately, this will drive broader adoption of digital payments across the country.”
The governor praised JazzCash for its significant role in expanding the digital payments landscape. With the shared goal of advancing a cashless society, JazzCash and the Government of Punjab are actively collaborating on numerous digital payment initiatives, including Punjab Traffic Challans, Pakistan Railways, Lesco, Mepco, Islamia University Bahawalpur, and PSPA.
JazzCash is also a key member of the Committee on Promotion of a Cashless Economy, established under the direction of the prime minister to promote the adoption of digital payments across the country.
