Fines totalling Rs22.05m imposed on profiteers in Ramazan so far

The performance of Sindh government officers assigned to assist the city administration in controlling prices during Ramazan has been praised by deputy commissioners.

These officers, who have also been granted judicial powers, have played a crucial role in monitoring prices and ensuring citizens can purchase essential items at official rates.

According to reports from deputy commissioners, special magistrates have collectively imposed fines exceeding Rs22.05 million on profiteers so far.

On the 18th of Ramazan, special magistrates imposed Rs2.99 million in fines, while a total of 213 profiteers were penalized, leading to fines amounting to Rs12.41 million. Additionally, four shops were sealed, and five profiteers were arrested.

During price inspections at 1,521 shops, administrative officers monitored the sale of goods at government-approved prices at 221 locations. Citizens expressed appreciation for the administration’s efforts, noting that the presence of officials ensured compliance with official pricing.

In District South, fines totaling Rs2.79 million were imposed, while District East recorded fines of Rs1.76 million. District West saw significantly lower fines at Rs22,000, while District Central imposed fines amounting to Rs2.19 million. In District Malir, fines reached Rs36,000, while District Korangi saw fines of Rs1.31 million. District Keamari imposed fines totaling Rs52,300.
