Robbers kill man in front of father during medical store robbery
Armed robbers shot and killed a young man in front of his father during a robbery at a medical store in Korangi on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.
The 22-year-old victim, Sohaib, was the owner of Bismillah Medical Store in Korangi No 6, Zaman Town. This marked the seventh killing during robbery resistance in just 18 days of Ramadan, bringing the total number of such murders this year to 22.
Armed criminals stormed the store and attempted to loot it at gunpoint. When Sohaib resisted, the robbers shot him and fled the scene. Police transferred the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
The victim's father, who witnessed the incident, said: "I reached the medical store and saw the robbers holding up the place at gunpoint. My son resisted, and they shot him. The bullet struck his shoulder, proving fatal."
Eyewitnesses reported that the robbers wore surgical masks to conceal their identities. As they fled, locals raised alarms, prompting the robbers to fire indiscriminately while escaping.
SSP Korangi Tariq Nawaz visited the hospital and confirmed that Sohaib was sitting at his medical store when he was shot during resistance. The police had collected evidence from the crime scene, and a special team had been formed to track down the culprits. Authorities were also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras to identify the criminals.
The victim was the only brother of two sisters, and his death had left the family in grief. As Sohaib's body was brought home, his mother, sisters, and relatives were overwhelmed with sorrow. A large number of area residents also gathered at the family's home to offer condolences.
Local residents heavily criticised the Sindh government and police, accusing them of failing to protect citizens from robbers. They expressed anger over the rising street crimes during Ramadan, highlighting the police's inefficiency. One protester said: "The government and police have left us at the mercy of criminals. Every day, innocent people are being killed, while police officers sit in their air-conditioned offices doing nothing."
