HYDERABAD: Naseer Soomro, one of the tallest men in the world, died in Shikarpur on Monday after a prolonged illness.
According to Soomro family members, 55-year-old Soomro had been suffering from lung disease and joint pain for several years. He had also been hospitalized several times due to his lung disease.
Soomro was 7 feet 9 inches tall. Due to his height, he got employment in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Born in Shikarpur, Sindh, he was considered the tallest man in the country. Later, Multan’s Zia Rashid, who stands at 8 feet, claimed this distinction.
Soomro drew attention to Pakistan from all over the world due to his extraordinary height. His funeral prayers will be offered in Shah Muhala, Shikarpur, on Tuesday (today). In a statement, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pakistan’s tallest person Naseer Soomro.
The prime minister prayed for the elevation of the departed soul’s ranks and for strength and patience for the bereaved family. “In this moment of grief, the entire nation stands in solidarity with Naseer Soomro’s family,” he said. “May Allah grant patience to the family of the late Naseer Soomro. Ameen.”
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed his deep sorrow over Naseer Soomro’s death. Leaders of various political parties and elected representatives of Shikarpur also expressed grief over the death of the country’s tallest man.
