Chicken meat being sold at beef price

LAHORE:The Punjab government has surrendered to the poultry mafia as the farmers have refused to follow the official rates and selling the live birds at their own rates which resultantly increasing the prices of chicken meat exorbitantly.

The price of chicken boneless meat touched the level of beef at Rs1,200-1,300 per kilogram, while chicken meat rate was equal to the official rates of the beef Rs800 per kilogram. The district administration despite getting complaints from the general public on its social media platforms did not take action against the profiteering by the poultry sellers. The officials in the district administration disclosed that the price control magistrate was restricted to take action against the certain level of overcharging on chicken meat. This rate is intimated on daily basis which exposes that the district admin has been issuing a fake rate list of chicken meat over the three weeks as they are aware of the increased price by the poultry farmers. By doing so, the district admin also keeps the provincial admin and chief minister in dark while showing their performance.

This week again, the official rate of the chicken meat remained unchanged for the fourth consecutive week, fixed chicken at Rs397-411 per kg, sold at Rs600-650 per kg, and chicken meat fixed at Rs595 per kg, and sold Rs750-850 and chicken boneless at Rs1,100-1,200 per kg.

The issue of overcharging was also unresolved which exposed the writ of the government and weak governance. This week again overcharging was witnessed on fruits, vegetables and meat as the meat prices were never implemented anywhere.

The price of potato soft skin A-grade was unchanged at Rs50-55 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg, B-grade at Rs40-45 per kg and C-grade at Rs35-38 per kg, mixed sold at Rs50-70 per kg.

The price of onion A-grade was further declined by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs45-50 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg, B-grade at Rs35-40 per kg, and C-grade at Rs27-30 per kg, mixed sold at Rs50-60 per kg. The price of tomato A-grade gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs55-60 per kg, sold at Rs120-140 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs45-50 per kg, and C-grade at Rs35-40 per kg, mixed sold at Rs80-100 per kg.

The price of garlic local new was reduced by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs270-280 per kg, sold at Rs350 per kg, Garlic GI variety gained by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs350-365 per kg, sold at Rs400-450 per kg and Garlic China reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs595-610 per kg, sold at Rs800-1,000 per kg.

The price of both Ginger Thai and Chinese further increased by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs370-385 per kg, both sold at Rs450-600 per kg. Cucumber farm reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs47-50 per kg, sold at Rs80-120 per kg.

Bitter gourd gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs176-185 per kg, sold at Rs280-300 per kg. The price of spinach unchanged at Rs33-35 at Rs60-80 per kg. Zucchini farm reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at 38-40 per kg, sold at Rs100-120 per kg, and Zucchini long by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs28-30 per kg, sold at Rs60-80 per kg.

The lemon Chinese increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs105-110 per kg, sold at Rs150-250 per kg. Green chili increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs110-115 per kg, sold at Rs180-200 per kg.

Capsicum price unchanged at Rs66-70 per kg, sold at Rs120-160 per kg. Price of cauliflower and cabbage was unchanged at Rs38-40 per kg, sold at Rs60-80 per kg and Rs80-120 per kg, respectively.

Carrot Chinese unchanged at Rs57-60 per kg, sold at Rs300 per kg, carrot local fixed at Rs23-25 per kg, sold at Rs40-80 per kg.

Turnip price increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs28-30 per kg, sold at Rs60-80 per kg.

Fenugreek (Methi) unchanged at Rs42-45 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg. Pea price gained by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs76-80 per kg, sold at Rs100-140 per kg.

Radish fixed at Rs23-25 per kg, sold at Rs40-60 per kg.

Lady finger price increased by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs186-195 per kg, sold at Rs300 per kg.

The price of different variety of apples fixed at Rs170-325 per kg, sold at Rs250-600 per kg. The price of Banana A-category unchanged at Rs250-260 per dozen, sold at Rs350-400 per dozen, and B-category gained by Rs15 per dozen, fixed at Rs180-190 dozen, sold at Rs250-280 per dozen. C-grade was fixed at Rs115-120 per dozen, sold at Rs200-220 per dozen.

Guava unchanged at Rs160-220 per kg, sold at Rs200-300 per kg. Citrus fruit price increased by Rs5 per dozen, fixed Rs185-430 per dozen, sold at Rs400-600 per dozen.

Pomegranate danaydar fixed at Rs425-445 per kg, sold at 600-800 per kg, pomegranate kandahari fixed at Rs325-465 per kg, sold at Rs600-700 per kg, pomegranate Bedana was sold at Rs1,400-1,500 per kg.

Dates were fixed at Rs425-465 per kg, sold at Rs750 to 2,000 per kg.

Strawberry price cut by Rs165 per kg, fixed at Rs200-300 per kg, sold at Rs250-400 per kg. Melon price reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs80-140 per kg, sold at Rs120-200 per kg.
