Environmental education can empower shifts toward progress in addressing gender inequality in Pakistan. Equipping women and girls with knowledge about sustainable practices, resource management, and environmental leadership, enables them to take leadership roles, thereby challenging the gender norms that suppress their capabilities. Women, especially in rural areas, are unfairly impacted by environmental issues like climate change and water scarcity.
Integrating gender-sensitive environmental education into school curricula can arm them with what’s needed to actively engage in environmental governance, building a foundation for greater gender equality. I strongly appeal to policymakers to give this approach top importance in education to create a future where both genders are equally equipped to face environmental challenges and promote environmental and social equity.
