Attack on patrolling party: Action taken against three cops for negligence

LANDIKOTAL: The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Peshawar, has taken strict disciplinary action against three police officers of Khyber district who were found negligent during an attack on a patrolling party in Landikotal, official sources said on Thursday.

The sources said that the superintendent of police cantonment on the directives of the capital city police officer conducted a thorough inquiry and awarded punishments to the police officers.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Alamzeb Khan Afridi and another policeman identified as Komandan Afridi were attacked by a group of militants in which they were injured on July 31, 2024. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Alamzeb succumbed to his injuries later. A civilian was also killed in the attack.

An inquiry was launched after the attack militants targeted a police patrolling party in Landikotal, exposing security lapses and lack of preparedness among the personnel on duty. The attackers managed to kill an ASI and injure another officer before escaping. The incident raised concerns about security arrangements in the region, prompting a swift investigation by the authorities.

A police official said that they had received the inquiry report a day earlier. He said as per the orders, he said, Amjad Khan Afridi has been demoted from assistant sub-inspector to havaldar, DSP Landikotal circle Mazhar Khan Afridi penalised with a two-year reduction in service, while constable Hamid Afridi dismissed from service.
