BUREWALA: A man was shot dead while his wife and stepdaughter were critically injured when his wife’s former husband, along with an accomplice, opened fire on their car - an attack that might have been prevented had the police acted on a prior complaint.
According to initial reports, the assailants, riding a motorcycle, ambushed the vehicle near Mujahid Colony Bridge on Lahore Road and fled the scene. The victims were rushed to a hospital where the man, identified as veterinary doctor Nemat, succumbed to injuries. His wife Iram Qadir and her nine-year-old daughter sustained serious gunshot wounds. The police sources revealed that Iram had divorced her first husband, Umar Farooq, due to his drug addiction and had married Nemat just 12 days ago.
She had previously reported threats from Umar Farooq to Model Town police station on February 3, 2025, warning that he had been threatening to kill her. However, despite her complaint, no action was taken by the police. Had timely action been taken, she might have been spared the tragedy of losing her husband. Investigation also indicated that Nemat had a previous marriage and was the father of four children.
