ISLAMABAD: The Establishment Division has amended the rules to assign the chairmanship of high-powered selection board (HPSB) to a federal minister, nominated by the prime minister.
According to sources, the Establishment Division has issued an SRO [statutory regulatory orders] in this regard, stating that the prime minister, in exercise of the powers vested in him under Sub-Section (1) of Section 25 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, has approved the amendment to the Civil Servants (Promotion to Grade 22 or its equivalent) Rules, 2010.
The rules have been amended to provide that the chairman of the high-powered selection board would be the prime minister or a federal minister, nominated by him, who would perform the duties of chairmanship in his place.
It may be recalled that earlier only the PM was the chairman of HPSB. This amendment was made on February 27, 2025, in light of which PM Shehbaz Sharif nominated Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar as the chairman of HPSB in his place.
