Death of teenage boy in police custody sparks outrage
Rawalpindi:A tragic incident has surfaced in Rawalpindi, where a 13-year-old boy, Suleman, allegedly died while in police custody. The bereaved family has accused the police of severe torture and is demanding justice.
According to sources, the Nasirabad police took Suleman into custody a week ago during an operation. The family claims that the police alleged he was wanted in a case, prompting them to hand him over. However, after a week, the police informed the family that Suleman’s body was at the hospital and asked them to collect it.
Suleman’s relatives have accused the police of subjecting him to brutal torture while in custody. They insist that he was completely healthy and had no underlying medical conditions, making his sudden death incomprehensible. The family has demanded a transparent investigation and strict legal action against those responsible.
The police have yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident. However, initial reports suggest that the police claim Suleman’s death was due to natural causes. An investigation is ongoing to determine further details.
Legal experts state that the death of any detainee in police custody is a serious matter that requires thorough investigation. If the family files a case, legal action can be taken against the responsible officers. Human rights activists and civil society groups have expressed grave concern over the incident. Various organisations have urged the government to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into Suleman’s custodial death. If any police officers are found guilty, they should face strict legal consequences.
The victim’s family and local citizens have called upon Punjab’s chief minister, the inspector general of police, and other senior officials to take immediate notice of the incident. They have demanded the formation of an independent investigative committee to ensure justice for Suleman’s family.
This incident highlights growing concerns over custodial deaths and underscores the urgent need for increased oversight and reforms in law enforcement agencies.
