Need to adopt modern techniques in mineral sector stressed

Islamabad:Dr Mumtaz Shah, Project Director, China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University, has stressed the urgent need for adopting modern mining techniques to unlock the immense untapped potential of Pakistan’s mineral sector, which remains underdeveloped and is ripe for exploration.

Prof Mumtaz was addressing a consultative dialogue on "Advancing cooperation in the transfer of knowledge and technology under the innovation corridor of CPEC 2.0" hosted here by Institute of Regional Studies (IRS).

Prof Mumtaz said that in order to mitigate the impact of natural disasters caused by climate change in the region, CPJRC is actively involved in establishing early warning system along CPEC and carrying out cutting-edge research towards better understanding the processes associated with climate change.

Speaking on the occasion, Yang Guangyuan, Minister Counsellor, Chinese Embassy, proposed targeted partnerships and specialised training programs to integrate Pakistani industries into global supply chains.

Drawing upon two decades of experience, he highlighted improvements in business confidence acknowledging challenges such as underutilised industrial capacity and electricity overcapacity in Pakistan.
