LAHORE: Zhuhai Comking Electric Co Ltd has partnered with E-Trade Nexus Private Ltd to supply electric vehicle charging infrastructure to Pakistan, aiming to accelerate the country’s transition to sustainable transportation. The agreement, announced on Monday, will see the Chinese company provide EV charging piles and stations to the Pakistani market.
The partnership aligns with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s green energy vision and seeks to boost EV adoption in Pakistan. E-Trade Nexus Director of Global Business Najamul Ghani highlighted the government’s recent 44 per cent reduction in electricity tariffs for EV charging stations, from Rs71.1 to Rs39.7 per unit, to make charging more affordable.
“This initiative aims to promote EV adoption, reduce transportation costs and decrease the country’s reliance on imported fossil fuels,” Ghani said, adding that the reduced tariffs could cut travel costs by up to threefold compared to traditional vehicles.
The Pakistani government has also streamlined the approval process for establishing EV charging stations, allowing businesses to register and operate within 15 days through an online portal. This move is designed to encourage investment in EV charging facilities.
Pakistan aims to achieve a 30 per cent EV adoption rate by 2030, with a focus on converting its large fleet of two- and three-wheeled vehicles to electric power. This transition is projected to save approximately $165 million annually in fuel import costs.
Ghani further disclosed plans by Chinese companies to establish EV charging station manufacturing units in Pakistan, which are expected to boost local production and reduce costs. The government’s efforts to reduce operational expenses and enhance infrastructure development are intended to stimulate consumer and investor participation in the EV market. Zhuhai Comking Electric specialises in the development and manufacturing of EV charging equipment, while E-Trade Nexus focuses on green energy solutions and EV infrastructure development in Pakistan.
