SHC dismisses plea for registration of murder FIR over Amir Liaquat’s death
The Sindh High Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by former wife of the late television personality Amir Liaquat Hussain seeking the registration of a murder case over the death of Amir.
Being aggrieved with the additional district and sessions court order that earlier dismissed her plea for the registration of a murder case, the applicant, Dania Bibi, submitted that Amir was murdered by his watchman and housekeepers and there were facts available on record that he was assaulted and murdered.
Her counsel stated that the cause of Amir’s death would be ascertained if exhumation was carried out and sought a direction for the Brigade police station SHO to register a case. An additional prosecutor general supported the impugned order of the additional district and sessions judge that rejected the application. He submitted that legal heirs of the deceased had not approached any forum for the registration of an FIR and the applicant was no more a legal heir of the deceased.
A single bench of the SHC headed by Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan after hearing the arguments observed that the essence of impugned order was that the contention did not merit registration of an FIR against the proposed accused.
The high court observed that it had been unearthed that there was a civil dispute between the parties over the moveable and immovable properties left by the deceased. It observed that the version of the applicant seemed to be mysterious and no firm opinion could be drawn. It observed that the impugned order of the sessions court did not need any interference and dismissed the application.
