Hyderabad: Veteran Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and MNA Nawab Yusuf Talpur was buried on Wednesday in his native village Manjhagar near Kunari city of Umerkot district.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Mukesh Kumar Chawla and others, and elders of the constituency attended the funeral prayers for the deceased political leader.
Nawab Yusuf Talpur was undergoing treatment at a private hospital of Karachi for a week and passed away on Tuesday. He was born on January 15, 1943, in the family of Nawab Pir Bux Khan Talpur. He graduated from the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, in 1966. During his education life, he actively participated in nationalist and student politics, and was also incarcerated at the Mach Jail in Balochistan.
In 1977, he contested the general elections for the first time from Mirpurkhas on the ticket of the PPP. Later, when former Sindh CM Mumtaz Ali Bhutto founded the Sindh National Front party (SNF), Talpur joined him and and was appointed as the Sindh president of the party.
However, before the 1993 general elections, Talpur joined the PPP and was elected MNA from the Umerkot constituency. He later became one of the closest associates of the late Benazir Bhutto. Between 2002 and 2024, Talpur was elected to the National Assembly for five consecutive times from Umerkot.
