NEW DELHI: Accusing him of covering up the businessman’s “corruption”, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his reply to a question related to Gautam Adani in the United States.
Gandhi attacked Modi for “maintaining silence” over the Adani issue while in the country, and terming it a “personal matter” on foreign soil.Posting on X, Rahul Gandhi said, “If you ask questions in the country, there is silence. If you ask abroad, it is a personal matter! Even in America, Modi Ji covered up Adani Ji’s corruption!”
“When filling a friend’s pocket is “nation building” for Modiji, then taking bribes and looting the nation’s wealth becomes a “personal matter,” the senior Congress MP added.Responding to whether the action of Adani Group came up during their meeting, Modi said, “Firstly, India is a democratic country, and our culture and our philosophy means that the entire world is a family. Every Indian is my own family member. And when it comes to such personal matters, two leaders of two countries will not get together on that topic and discuss anything on an individual matter.”
The question pertained to US prosecutors charging Gautam Adani, Asia’s second-richest man, of allegedly helping arrange bribes of more than $250 million to officials in India and defraud US investors. However, the Adani group denied these allegations.
