Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has directed the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) to ensure uninterrupted water supply and proper drainage across the city on Shab-e-Barat.
He emphasised that Shab-e-Barat, which will be observed on 15th Shaban (February 14), is one of the most sacred nights in Islam. He stated that Muslims spend the night in worship and facilitating visitors at cemeteries and worshippers in mosques was no less than an act of worship itself.
The mayor warned that negligence in these arrangements would not be tolerated. Following the mayor’s directives, KWSC Managing Director Engineer Asadullah Khan issued orders to implement a comprehensive water supply and drainage plan for Shab-e-Barat.
According to a circular issued in this regard, all necessary arrangements must be completed before the night of 15th Shaban, ensuring that water-related issues in cemeteries, shrines, mosques and religious sites were resolved.
The superintending engineers of all districts have been instructed to coordinate closely with elected representatives, district administration, religious scholars, and social and religious organisations to ensure smooth execution of the plan.
Additionally, the in-charge of the hydrants cell has been instructed to deploy water tankers at the entrances and exits of cemeteries so that social and religious organisations offering water (sabeel) near cemeteries could receive water without charge.
